  Java 2-enable your browser

Getting Java 2 is simple

Many recent Java books are using "Java 2", a term used to specify any release of the Java Development Kit (jdk) starting with jdk 1.2 and including the most recent release. Since jdk 1.2 there has been a 1.3 and 1.4. Often, there are version numbers after the 1.2 and 1.3 and 1.4, such as 1.2.2, 1.3.1 and 1.4.1.

JJ will run all of our examples, including Karel J. Robot and ObjectDraw without requiring Java 2.
Some examples, however, require Java 2, such as the Marine Biolody Simulation and
some of the examples from Java Methods by Gary and Maria Litvin.

Java 2 enabling your browser is easy:

  • Netscape: Download and install Netscape 7.x and specify that you want to include "Java 2". Download Netscape 7.x here
or email us and we will send you a free JJ-Netscape 7.x CD for the cost of shipping.
If you already have Netscape 6.2 or 7.x but it is not Java 2-enabled, download Java 2 directly from Sun Microsystems here

  • Internet Explorer: Download Java 2 directly from Sun Microsystems here
