From July AP CS Java Workshop guest lecture

"I've not read nor seen a presentation that clears up
class, interface, and abststract class as well as
what you did today. I got lots out of it. thanks."

        David Wittry
        Troy High School
        Fullerton, CA

From May 17-18 Marine Biology Simulation HOOP

"I found the workshop to be very beneficial and enjoyable.

David's explanations were clear and easy to follow.
The way David explained the details of MBS and the labs
got me really quite excited to teach the MBS next year.

JJ is easy to use. I was initially apprehensive about the move
to Java but now I like it better than c++.

This is great way to "attend" a workshop - no worries about
directions, traffic, etc. Also, I like the idea of being able
to commmunicate verbally as well as posting messages/comments.
The JJ Dream Team responses are always very quick."

        Barbara Matas
        Central Bucks High School West
        Doylestown, PA

From May 3, OOP, MBS and Java Game Programming

"The instructor David Epstein showed great patience and understanding. I must say that I like the JJ software better than what I was using. It's easier to use, and has several nice features like ColorIt and Full Edit. The teaching materials (slides and Java programs) will be referenced by me over the next several weeks to better absorb the information. Also, he had several neat Java games that he used for instruction purposes that my students would love to modify. He made me think about how to solve programming questions, not just program. It was definately a positive learning experience."

        Chuck Kenny
        Strake Jesuit High School
        Houston, TX

From April 26th OOP, MBS and Java Game Programming
(David Epstein and Robb Cutler):

" The PSVM Java educational material was easy to follow.
I have participated in many phone conference calls working
on projects/problems in the private sector, I have not
previously participated in a "phone-in" workshop.
It was GREAT!!"

        Ray Wilhite
        Cheyenne High School
        Las Vegas, NV

From April 19th Java Jump Start and Intro to Object-Oriented Programming HOOP workshop
(David Epstein and Owen Astrachan):

"I thought the workshop was great and very worthwhile.

I have been studying Java on my own for a couple of months now
but still found a lot of very helpful information.
I would definitely consider taking another."

        Gil Gonsalves
        East Longmeadow HS
        East Longmeadow MA

From March 15th, 2003 Pace University Java workshop:

I attended the live workshop from David Epstein of PSVM at Pace University and found the
"Java jargon" presentation very helpful. It helped me understand each step of the
edit, compile, execute process. Bytecode, javac, Java Virtual Machine as well as
the extensions .java and .class now make sense to me.
I was able to use the information for a lecture in my own Java class the following week."

        Marie Regan
        Ocean Township HS
        New Jersey

From March 13-14, 2003 Howard County Java workshop:

You are an excellent teacher. I enjoyed your style and process.

I have several ways in which I would integrate JJ into my CS curriculum.
I would envisage all students from our CS2 (pre-AP currently taught in C++)
to CS4 and OOP (post-AP) to use the JJ tool. Also, we attend various
programming competitions throughout the year. I would use JJ to prepare
the teams for competition.

From Feb 8th, 2003 CMU Java workshop:

The online materials are fantastic. It makes it very easy to follow the explanations during the workshop and use example code by simply pressing a button to import to JJ. It is also a benefit to have access to the presentation slides, examples, and other information outside of the workshop by logging into psvm.org at MY convenience.

I found the workshop gave me tools that I believe are not only practical for me to use but fancy enough for the students to think they are "cool".

David as a presenter used differentiated instruction in such a way that both the faster and slower learner's appetites seem to have been satisfied. I know that both my students and I were highly impressed with the relaxed, friendly attitude of the entire workshop.

Thank you very much for a great learning and teaching experience.

        David Lieberman
        North Hills Senior HS
        Pitsburgh, PA

From Nov 3rd, 2002 Chapman Conference workshop:
"The workshop was definitely valuable. One of the best I've had.
I've been exploring the other lessons, have read them all AND listened
    to the audio
---> that really is a great feature."
        Michel Paul
        Beverly Hills High School

From Summer 2002, 1-Day Java Intro HandsOn, Online, On-the-phone Workshop

. It was a great day. I really enjoyed it.
Getting comments, suggestions, and help
from teachers all over the country was fun
David did a great job presenting and he was
very patient answering our questions.
I spent time after the workshop and got all
the labs working. On Monday I will show
the students the Maximum Surprize.

   Weymouth High School

.

Labs are both productive and challenging with plenty of online help:

I enjoyed the Conference Call workshop.
It was an interesting experiment, and
I find that this is a good format for
Computer Science and probably any
workshop where you are learning
new skills.

   Kathleen Weaver

   Texas Computer Teachers Resources

.

I found the experience very worthwhile. I was frankly
somewhat skeptical about how much might be accomplished
in a single day, and online. I am happy to say my doubts
were groundless. At the end of the day I was very tired
but quite satisfied the day had been well spent.
The online discussion was handled well.
Your slides are well done and well structured for ease in learning.
My thanks for your time and efforts.
